BNO application strategy

The United Kingdom is expected to officially leave the European Union at the end of October this year, but it still does not hinder Hong Kong people’s intention to apply for BNO. In addition to the EU countries, their practical BNOs can enjoy visa-free access to other unpopular countries. Recently, BNO’s application methods have been changed. If you want to know how to apply for or renew your BNO, you should pay attention to the following.

Those who are eligible to apply for BNO..
1. Hong Kong people who have applied for BNO before the reunification.
2. Parents who have BNO have filled in their children’s names in the “included child” column of their passport (must be born before 97).

Documents needed︰
1. Photo of e-Cert (provided when applying online)
2. The original of the BNO passport (photocopy is not accepted)
3. Color photocopy of Hong Kong permanent identity card (both front and back)
4. All non-UK passports (if you have a SAR passport or other passport, you will need to provide a color photocopy of the entire passport)
5. A supporting document dated last year to prove the name, address, and right of abode, such as tax, education, employment records, voter card, entry and exit documents, bank letters, etc.

Steps to apply for BNO:
1. Fill in the required information on the UK Passports website.
2. After completing the information and payment, a statement must be printed and signed.
3. Mailed to the UK Passports Office together with the relevant application documents.

After completing the information and payment online, there will be a statement requesting the applicant to fill out. It will also show that your application requires the deputy to sign or not. If the statement requires the deputy to sign, the deputy will need to fill in the specified sentence on the back of one of the passport photos in addition to the signature.

“I certify that this is a true likeness of the applicant title (Mr, Miss, Mrs, Ms …etc) + Applicant’s name” Then, the deputy person needs to sign the sentence below and write his name and date. .

What are the conditions for the signed deputy?
1. Know more than two years with the applicant
2. Must be a professional (both current or retired)
3. UK, Ireland or other EU, US or Commonwealth passport holders (if you are a Commonwealth, US passport or non-UK, non-Irish passport holder, you will need to provide a color photocopy of the Personal Data Sheet of the Deputy Passport)

Under what circumstances will the deputy sign be signed?
1. The face has changed a lot.
2. Renewal profile has changed significantly
3. Need to replace the lost/stolen/damaged passport
4. Renew your passport with a valid period of validity
5. Classified by the system as the first person to apply for a passport
6. The first time a passport applicant (BN(O) applicant is limited to his/her own name and information included in the parent/other’s passport)

What restrictions does the deputy have?
1. Cannot be the relative of the applicant (whether or not there is a blood relationship)
2. The spouse of the applicant or the person who resides at the same address as the applicant
